Thirty-one U3A Hume members have just returned after a one-week trip to Mildura. We visited the shops, restaurants and wineries. We took trips to Red Cliffs to see the actual red cliffs along the Murray River. We explored the river in a steam driven paddle steamer, including going through Lock 11. There was a trip to a winery for some, while others scoured Mildura shops for bargains.
There were visits to Woodsies Rock Shop, “Big Lizzie”, Olive Oil estate and Old Wentworth Gaol. Near the Gaol was the Folk Museum, containing many hundreds of items from not so long ago. Who remembers the wringers, wood cutting tools, old telephone switchboards, rotary dial phones, radiograms and farm machinery? When the caretakers of yesteryear pass on, will the latest generation be interested in maintaining this memorabilia?
On the return journey our bus took us to Swan Hill Pioneer Museum to see how life was lived years ago.
Some photos of our trip are now available on this website, so go here to take a look. Additional photos from Donna’s many photos have also been added.
